Christmas Decoration Crafting at the Schoolhouse
The historic Pullen’s Corner Schoolhouse will host an ornament-making and decorating workshop on Sunday afternoon, November 17th.
Workshop participants of all ages will experience a step back in time to the 1860s when Christmas in New England was becoming increasingly popular with decorated trees appearing in many homes. Families, especially the children, gather natural decorations such as pine cones, berries, and acorns to decorate the tree. Join the costumed interpreters in learning some history from the period while making historically accurate Civil War-era decorations for your own tree: string popcorn and cranberries, make a garland of peanuts and tissue paper, fold a paper star and much more. From easy creations for children to more challenging ones for adults, there will be fun for all and a wonderful keepsake to bring home to your own family for the holidays.
Admissions are staggered every half hour with limited capacity at each time slot, beginning at 1:00 pm. and the last at 3:00 pm. Reserve your spot and time in advance through greatroadheritagecampus.org. Appropriate for ages 5 and older. General admission is $10 per person; $5 children age 5-10.
The Pullen’s Corner Schoolhouse, also known as the Hot Potato School, is located at Chase Farm Park, 671 Great Road, Lincoln. The volunteers of the Friends of Hearthside host historic experiences at the four town-owned 19th century properties at the Park, with all proceeds supporting the ongoing programming and restoration of the sites.
