Home for the Holidays: Tours of Historic Hearthside House
The majestic stone mansion, Hearthside House, stands along one of the country’s oldest highways located in Lincoln, RI, known as Great Road. Since it was built in 1810, there have been 11 different owners of the home, and today it is a museum. As the 2024 season comes to a close, the museum is offering evening guided tours on Dec. 28th and 29th to learn about the fascinating history of this unique house and those families who lived here. Tours will be given by guides in period attire who help to bring this history to life.
Holiday decorations bring warmth and charm to every room of the house, which adds another feature to the tour. The exquisite beauty of Hearthside is experienced outside too, with festive wreaths on every window and a tree and garland adorning the gazebo. Twinkling lights throughout the house and yard add to the magical look of this unique architectural wonder. The Gift Shop will be open during the event.
Home for the Holidays is ideal for history buffs and those who may be home visiting during the Christmas season, or for anyone who was not able to visit during the Old-Fashioned Christmas events earlier in the month, or those who always wanted to know the history behind this familiar house on Great Road.
Tours are scheduled starting at 4:30 pm with the last one given at 6:30 pm. Each tour group is limited in size, and tours last 75 min. Advance reservation and ticket sales only, which are available through hearthsidehouse.org. Tickets are $15. The tour is geared to adults and youth over age 12.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Hearthside is located at 677 Great Road, Lincoln, RI and is managed by the all-volunteer organization, Friends of Hearthside, to raise funds for its ongoing maintenance and preservation. It is one of four town-owned historic sites of the Great Road Heritage Campus at Chase Farm Park that the group is responsible for.
