Skills Workshop Series – Exploring MedlinePlus
July 18 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm
Blackstone Heritage Corridor has received a generous grant from the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, New England Region to bring a series of adaptive kayaking events to the Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor. In addition, the grant includes training on how to use MedlinePlus, an online repository of health information.
Join us in learning how to navigate this helpful tool. We will learn about MedlinePlus, the consumer health resource developed by the National Institutes of Health. Unlike many popular websites and apps, MedlinePlus allows no advertising and does not track your activity. MedlinePlus is more like an online library than a store or magazine.
We will learn how to locate information in English, Spanish and other languages. We will search for disability resources, such as building inclusive communities, coping with disasters and traumatic events, and finding support for caregivers and siblings. Lastly, we will learn how to check the safety of herbs and supplements for those taking medications.
Presented by Margot Malachowski, an Education and Outreach Coordinator for the National Library of Medicine. She works at UMass Medical School in Worcester, MA.
Registration is required. Contact Suzanne Buchanan no later than July 15, 2019. RSVP to volunteer@BlackstoneHeritageCorridor.org or call 508-234-4242.
