Something Old, Something New: 150 Years of Wedding Fashions & Traditions

Hearthside House Museum opens its 2022 season with a special exhibit of wedding fashions and traditions dating back 150 years.  Two floors of the historic house museum are filled with some 50 dresses, with the oldest from 1864 and the newest 2001.  The home’s 10 fireplaces serve as a backdrop to each room’s displays, with elaborately decorated mantels of spring flowers, adding to the beauty of the exquisite fashions.  Traditional wedding music plays in the background as visitors take a self-guided tour of the museum to see these stunning dresses and learn about how styles changed with each decade including the ceremonies, receptions, cake styles and honeymoons.  Wedding superstitions of good luck and bad luck that stem from the Victorian era may surprise or sound familiar to many.  Docents dressed in period attire will be available throughout the museum to inform visitors as they learn about the evolution of weddings that this exhibit presents.  Admissions are staggered every 15 min. to prevent crowding.  Pre-register at www.hearthsidehouse.org.  Payment is in cash at the door.  Additional dates are April 23 & 24.
