Spring Celebration at the Schoolhouse
For centuries, May Day has heralded the arrival of spring with vibrant celebrations—dancing, flowers, and communal joy rooted in ancient traditions of renewal. Join us on Sunday, May 4th, 2025, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM as the volunteers of the Great Road Heritage Campus bring this timeless festivity to life at the historic Pullen’s Corner Schoolhouse! Revel in traditional Maypole dancing, craft spring treasures like May baskets, paper flowers, and spinning pinwheels, and discover the rich history of May Day celebrations. Rain or shine, the fun goes on!
Set in the picturesque Chase Farm Park, this beautifully restored one-room schoolhouse—once bustling with Lincoln’s children from the mid-1800s to the 1920s—comes alive with costumed volunteers playing schoolmarms and pupils. Explore period artifacts, experience “golden rule days,” and uncover the quirky tale of why it’s called “The Hot Potato School.”
Admission: $10 (all materials included) – proceeds support the Friends of Hearthside’s preservation and education efforts.
