What Happened to the Most French-Canadian City in the United States?

The Woonsocket Historical Society, in conjunction with the American French Genealogical Society, is presenting a lecture on Woonsocket’s long connection with French-Canadian culture. Bob Bellerose, local historian, will give the talk on Saturday, March 4 at the American-French Genealogical Society at 1:00 pm and is scheduled to last 90 minutes. Questions will follow.

Three waves of immigrants, each with connections to France, arrived in this city and contributed to its history and success.  The talk, with illustrations, will look at the arrival of the French Huguenots, French-Canadians, and French and Belgian Nationals, their roles, and will provide examples of prominent members of each group.  The public is welcome to find out what happened to a city where French was openly spoken to where its offspring do not today.
