***CANCELLED***“Woonsocket’s Forgotten Cemeteries”

Woonsockets Forgotten Cemeteries PosterThe Woonsocket Historical Society invites you to “Woonsocket’s Forgotten Cemeteries,”  presented by Greg Duhamel, local historian and cemetery conservator, who will speak about Woonsocket cemeteries that are often overlooked or hidden out of sight. Greg is a volunteer Cemetery Conservator with the Blackstone Heritage Corridor and hosts cemetery cleanups and restoration projects in historical cemeteries in the Blackstone Valley. He also performs genealogical research through the cemetery work he does by trying to connect living descendants with their deceased ancestors.

In addition, Greg does gravestone cleaning and restoration throughout the Blackstone Valley and he works closely with the RI Historical Cemetery  Commission using methods given by the Association of Gravestone Studies for the best outcomes to the gravestone to prevent further damage. Greg will be accompanied by Johnelle Bergeron, a cemetery survey expert. Johnelle, who is also a volunteer Cemetery Conservator with Blackstone Heritage Corridor, helps record and correct vandalism and neglect which occur in the cemeteries, and assists with repairs and resetting of gravestones.

Free event. Refreshments will be served.
