Winter Hiking Workshop

Want to get more comfortable hiking in the winter? Join us for a workshop about proper winter hiking safety, technique, attire, gear, and more. Program will take place in the River Bend Farm Visitor Center conference room. All ages welcome, children must be accompanied by an adult. Please contact the park at (508) 278-7604 for more information. Immediately following this event, is a 2-hour Winter Recreational Hike of the Goat Hill Trail.

Winter Hiking Series – Family Hike Past Goat Hill Lock

Join MassDCR and the Blackstone River Watershed Association on a 2.5 mile round-trip, easy hike around Goat Hill to the Goat Hill Lock.  Portions of the trail are hilly and may be more strenuous if icy or snow-covered.  This forest trail has roots and rocks along the path.  Be prepared for cold weather, dress in layers and avoid cotton clothing.  Appropriate footwear is required.  Consider bringing hiking poles.  Carry drinking water and a snack. Maple Sugar Days

The sweet tradition continues! Learn how maple syrup is made as park staff and volunteers at River Bend Farm Maple Sugar Days take visitors through a guided tour of the art and science of tapping maple trees, gathering sap, and producing maple syrup.   Free tours will be offered to the general public on a first-come, first-served basis at 11 a.m., Noon, 1 p.m., and 2 p.m., and last about 90 minutes. Around sunset in early spring, male woodcocks perform a “sky dance” to attract female woodcocks.  Volunteers-In-Parks interpretive volunteers Paul and Beth Milke will lead a short walk down to the lower fields to listen for their distinctive beeping calls.  Watch as the birds fly high in the air and then spiral down, landing near their takeoff spot.  It’s a wonderful sight to see!
