April 6

Yellow Bag Day in Cumberland

Yellow Bag Day, the townwide litter cleanup sponsored each year by The Valley Breeze, will be held on Saturday, April 6, beginning at 8 a.m. Volunteers are needed, and should write to Tom Ward, retired Breeze publisher, at [email protected], for more information.

Those who have helped in the past and expect to help again are asked to confirm their help with Ward immediately.

Each year for the past 15 years, more than 100 volunteers are coordinated and spread out across town in teams to have the maximum effect, and groups like Friends of the Blackstone, local families, Scout troops, and many others pitch in to clean their designated areas.

On the western side of the Blackstone River, Town Councilman Ken Pichette has been growing an effort in Lincoln through the years, and will be holding that town’s cleanup on the same day. To volunteer, email [email protected].

Pichette’s cleanup is centered in Manville, and begins at Navigant Credit Union at noon, also on April 6.

In Cumberland volunteers can work either Saturday or Sunday, April 6-7, as they wish. The town’s Highway Department will pick up the hundreds of yellow bags on Monday, April 8.

Bags will become available for pickup in mid-March at The Valley Breeze office, 6 Blackstone Valley Place, Suite 204, Lincoln, during regular office hours, weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
