Fall Bat Walk

Willard House and Clock Museum and Mass Audubon are teaming up again to host an evening bat walk on the museum grounds.
On Friday night, September 29th at 6:00 PM, visitors of all ages can join experts from Mass Audubon to walk the property using bat detectors and in real-time, listen to and identify the bats flying overhead. There will be an up-close encounter with a guest bat and a chat with a bat biologist before the walk.

“Bats are the most fascinating, flying mammals known and the Willard House property has proven it’s an ideally suited bat habitat,” says Mass Audubon Education Manager and Conservation Coordinator, Martha Gach. “We will have a chance to learn about the world
of bats and hear how bats use a time-centric tool, echolocation, to navigate the Willard House surroundings and capture mosquitoes as a meal.

The US Department of the Interior states there are over 1400 species of bats, ranging in size from a penny to a small dog and they live on every part of the planet except for polar regions and extreme deserts. According to Mass Audubon, there are nine bat species specific to Massachusetts.

The event is free and was made possible by the generous donation of Country Bank.
