First Day Hike at George Washington State Campground
What better way to kick off the New Year than by getting a jump start burning off those extra holiday calories in the great outdoors? First Day Hikes are part of a nationwide initiative led by America’s State Parks to encourage people to get outdoors. These hikes provide a means for individuals and families to welcome the coming year in the outdoors, exercising and connecting with nature. For many it has become a tradition.
Commemorative pins are available for participants while supplies last.
This year, join the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management for a 1.5-mile loop hike at George Washington State Campground (parking location TBA) on January 1 from 11am – 1pm.
Leashed dogs are allowed if the leash is no longer than six feet. The trail is on uneven ground; jogging stroller-friendly. Children must be always accompanied by an adult. There will be outdoor information tables and activities stationed along the path. The walk will be held rain or shine, so DEM encourages participants to dress accordingly.
