Volunteer Water Chestnut Pull at Turner Reservoir, East Providence

Volunteers are needed to collect invasive water chestnut plants, which threaten to cover the reservoir if left to multiply. The last events of 2023 will be held Tuesday, July 11, and Saturday, July 15, in order to remove the plants before they produce seeds.  Workers are needed both on shore to help carry buckets to compost or to bring their own canoes, kayaks, or wading boots to pluck plants from the water. Events are open to all members of the community (including high school students or scouts seeking volunteer hours). No experience is necessary.

Gloves are provided, and waterproof shoes are recommended.
