Jane’s Walk: Standing on the Edge of a City

Explore Providence neighborhoods on foot with Jane’s Walk, a global walking festival on May 3-5, inspired by urban activist Jane Jacobs. These interactive walks are led by local residents and community activists who get people thinking, talking, and connecting with each other. Jane’s Walks are free and anyone can participate! Wear comfortable shoes, meet your walk leader in the designated meeting spot, and get ready for a lively discussion. Walks take place rain or shine.

We encourage all people to walk, bus, bike, scooter and carpool! Use the Transit app for specific details about your destination.
  • Standing on the Edge of a City — This walk focuses on the history of extraction in Providence. We will discuss public access to water, ownership and the commoditization of the natural world, garbage and pollution, and who makes decisions about our shared cultural heritage. We will meet at Field’s Point, a location which has endless layers to pull apart, and walk along the rocky shore. Please note that this walk will be on uneven terrain, and includes stairs and a rocky beach; we regret that it is therefore unsuitable for anyone with mobility challenges. Start/end points: This walk will begin and end in the parking lot of Save the Bay, Field’s Point. Parking: Save the Bay parking lot. Field’s Point // RIPTA 4

We encourage all people to walk, bus, bike, scooter and carpool! Use the Transit app for specific details about your destination.
